Natural disasters cause havoc and throw life of the gear. You never know when they occur, even if we predict one, the intensity of the disaster is something that no one can foresee. Recently, early this week, Turkey and Syria saw a high-intensity earthquake with an intensity of 7.8 on the Richter scale that devastated neighborhoods, and entire cities. Not only that, a series of aftershocks further damaged houses, hospitals, schools, and other crucial infrastructure, worsening the situation.
The current ground situation
In the aftermath of any disaster, here too, many people need urgent help. Many NGOs and organizations have been providing Food and Medical Supplies, but it isn’t enough for the immense demand.
We all know how the local Syrians and Turks have suffered due to the civil war in Syria that started more than a decade ago. To date, there are millions of Syrians living as refugees in Turkey. With this earthquake, they have again lost everything after rebuilding their lives in a foreign land.
What are people doing to help?
As soon as the word spread about the earthquake, aid organizations and countries across the world are doing all they can to help these earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. The US, India, and many other countries have sent food, medicinal supplies, and other aid besides special disaster relief teams to help the local authorities.
Besides this, UNICEF, the International Rescue Committee, and other aid organizations are providing locals with the basic supplies they need to survive during the harsh winter. Also, other medical organizations are treating the wounded and providing much-needed medical care to the affected populations.
According to experts, this earthquake has been the worst of its kind in the Levant region. Its strong aftershocks and a wider affected area have meant the region needs more aid in the days to come.
The good thing is that people aren’t shying away to donate to this cause. At the Breath of the Spirit Ministries, the organization led by Dr. Michelle Corral is doing all it can to help those in need. They are working round the clock to get funds to help these earthquake-affected people.
What you can do to help?
It is not possible to reach all of the earthquake victims even with all the might of the world. Though we could give them temporary relief in the form of aid and medical attention, the reality is that they will have to spend years rebuilding their lives and infrastructure to remain self-sufficient. Add to that the political instability and threat of civil war in Syria, and returning to normal life is going to be extra challenging for them.
As responsible global citizens, we must help these earthquake victims in the best way we can. For this, we need to donate regularly to help them, just as Dr. Michelle Corral does with her Chesed international NGO. Donating a small amount to them regularly would help fund the education and redevelopment of someone’s life, giving you their blessings for a lifetime. Donate now and do your bit toward a better tomorrow for these earthquake victims.
